Working for some extra cash

My husband and I are in Financial Peace University at our church. For those of you not familier with that, it's taught by Dave Ramsey and it's a commen sense approach to manage your money.

We are on Baby step 2 which is paying off all debt through the debt snowball! So to get our snowball really rolling, we are getting creative to earn some extra cash.

This weekend I did face painting. I did ok. I could only work for tips. So I put out  a big bucket and said "Tip Me." Ok, it didn't say that, but I did put working for tips and a suggested amount.

It was fun and I got some practice for next week. I get to do a booth where I can actually charge. I'm hoping for a sizeable day.

All the funds go towards our debt.

All You Magazine announced the Grocery Challenge in this month's issue.

It starts July 13th. You must sign up here by July 12th to be included.

Here are the details:

Show off your shopping smarts by spending no more than $25 per family member per week on groceries over a four-week period beginning July 13. That's $100 a week for a family of four. You could win a $1,000 grocery card plus a year's supply of Knorr side dishes and the chance to appear in ALL YOU magazine.

Follow these guidelines:

• During the contest, groceries that you purchase count toward your weekly total. However, feel free to grow, barter or use stockpiled food to supplement your meals. Creativity and ingenuity count!
• If you eat at a restaurant or buy takeout, the cost must go toward the week's total.
• Household supplies and toiletries do not count toward each weeks total.
• Keep track of your money using the optional Spending Log.
• Save receipts--you will be required to submit them if you are a finalist.

I can't wait!!!!

Looking for some cheap fun - try factory tours

Looking for something cheap to do with the kids this summer? Try some of the factory tours in your area.

Most of them are free and include some free samples as well.

I know my family has enjoyed the Celestial Seasonings Tea tour many times. We have also been to Hammonds Candies. This one is great. You get to see workers making old fashion candy by hand and you get some free samples of the candies at the end of the tour.

Tours normally aren't very long. It's just enough to get out of the house.

Whoo Hoo - Let's go Pick our Own!

Ok, If you are at all familier with my blog, you know I LOVE farmer's markets.

Today, the kids and I are heading to Berry Patch Farms in Colorado to pick our own strawberries! We pick 'em, they weigh 'em and we buy 'em.

We only go to pick a basket or two. It's more the experience of the kids knowing where food comes from. And just the joy and fun being outside around beautiful red strawberries!

I encourage you to find a pick your own farm in your town and go!
