In the past thirty years, obesity rates have tripled in the US, while school budgets for health and fitness have only gotten tighter. Henkel Helps Get Kids Fit (www.HenkelHelps.com) is doing its best to combat these issues by rewarding one deserving school in the US with $25,000 to be used toward providing enhanced health and fitness education, equipment, technology, resources and service for their students and community.
This campaign has a simple mission – to help schools, communities, and families nationwide address the urgent health and fitness crisis among our nation’s youth, while acknowledging the budget crisis faced by schools across the country. The winning school and sweepstakes winner will be announced in January 2011.
WHAT: Henkel Helps Get Kids Fit will reward one deserving school with $25,000 to be used towards providing enhanced health and fitness education, equipment, technology, resources and services for their students and community. Henkel Helps Get Kids Fit will also launch a sweepstakes to win $5,000 in fitness cash to help improve the health and fitness of the winner and their family.
Henkel Helps Get Kids Fit was created to help schools, communities, and families nationwide address the urgent health and fitness crisis among our nation’s youth, while acknowledging the budget crisis faced by schools across the country.
The Henkel Helps Get Kids Fit campaign is endorsed and supported by the American Council on Exercise (ACE), America’s leading authority on fitness and one of the largest fitness certification, education and training organizations in the world.
WHY: Obesity rates have tripled in the past 30 years—a trend that means, for the first time in our history, American children may face a shorter expected lifespan than their parents. Moreover, we spend $150 billion every year to treat obesity-related conditions—yet the median physical education budget for schools in the United States is only $764 per school year.
“Students who are fit and healthy are more ready to learn. Physical education is a critical contributor to physical fitness, health and academic performance,” says NASPE President Dr. Stephen C. Jefferies, professor and director of graduate studies, Central Washington University—a statement that Henkel Helps Get Kids Fit takes to heart.
HOW: Henkel Helps Get Kids Fit encourages parents, students, educators and community members to visit http://www.HenkelHelps.com to nominate their local school by answering a fundamental question with inspirational answers: “What Would Your School Do with $25,000 to Improve Youth Fitness?”
Finalists will receive a free Flip video camera to create a brief video that bring to life the health and fitness issues facing their school and their plan for making the most of the $25,000 prize.
