I'm sitting here watching my son chow down on some green spinach. Not because I asked him too. But because he watches Popeye on Cartoon network. And when Popeye eats spinach he gets strong.
A few big handfuls go in and he runs over to show me his strong muscles, which I exitedly assure him they are growing as we speak.
It makes me realize how impressionable our young kids are.
With Spongebob selling kids meals, and movie characters as prizes our kids are bombarded with unhealthy eating alternatives.
You know what the whole magic part of this is. . . it's up to me to say NO.
No, this isn't healthy. I'm not buying a burger and fries, I don't care who is in the box. It is not good for you.
You know why I bought the spinach, because it was healthy. I want him to eat it. And a big THANK YOU to the creators of Popeye that he eats spinach to get energy instead a chomping a chocolate bar and sugar laden energy drink.
Here are some healthy alternatives to fast food kiddie foods:
Create Your Own Happy Meal: I found that my son especially really only wants to go to McDonalds for the toy in the happy meal. So now, when I go to garage sales or yard sales, at the dollar store - pick up little toys. Many times little kids are selling their old toys for 5cents to a quarter. Buy from these little guys. You'll make their day.
Then just keep them and place them into a packed pic nic lunch.
Any Ideas?
