I think the thought of signing up for a company or product newsletter scares many people. They think they will be spammed relentlessly by the company. While that may hold some validity to it, I want to encourage you to rethink that stance.
By law, you must optin to recieve an email from a commercial source. That's why companies ask your permission first. If you agree to ONLY recieve newsletters from that company - than that is all they can send to you.
If you see another box there that reads something to the extent of, Would you like to recieve emails from our affiliates or some other third party source, this checked box allows them to share your information. Just for the record I never check this box, nor should you.
I only recieve newsletters from places I trust, such as Kashi (I got coupons for free waffles!), Right @ Home, Kraft, Betty Crocker/ General Mills and the like.
Included in these newsletters are recipes and promotions. Many times there are coupons.
For instance, I recently signed up for the Farmland Line of products (bacon, ham, sausage). By doing that, I received a whole page of coupons. Because their products were BOGO last week at King Soopers, I was able to buy two packages for $5.49. Then I used two of my coupons for $2 more off. Which came to $3.49 for two packages of bacon.
If you want, set up a seperate email account just for newsletters. And use that only.
