I wasn’t always frugal. I know – hold in your surprise! Actually, I’ve always been able to make what I had work.
When my husband and I first got married, we didn’t have much. I stayed at home with my daughter and our son, and he was the only one working. Some weeks we had $30 for food – but we always had plenty.
When our son was ten months old, I also went back to work because we realized the two bedroom apartment we were living in was not working for us! I am trained in graphic design - which lead into a career in online marketing. Quickly I found myself making over six figures a year.
Let me tell you, this amount of money might seem like a good thing. But when it catches you off guard and you aren’t prepared to deal with it – sometimes it’s more harm than good. This was our situation. I was making three times as much as my husband and it started causing troubles. I also wasn’t spending the money wisely. We just spent spent and spent some more.
To make a long story short – my husband and I started having some problems. So we started attending church. After going for awhile, God started to lay on my heart that this job was not for me. So I quit and walked away from my six figure income. I took a job where I could work from home. My husband and I worked things out and we had a third baby!
Because of the job change, I found myself making about a third of what I was making before! I found every thing I could to cut back on. The biggest area I found – the grocery bill.
When I had my six figure income, I just went shopping and threw stuff in the cart. I didn’t have a plan or look at the prices. I spent around $200-$300 a week on groceries and we still went out to eat or ordered in three to four days. Why? I didn’t have a plan. I didn’t have a menu – just food thrown in.
Today it makes me sick to think of the food and money I wasted shopping like this.
But God has an amazing way of working. Because I had to learn where and how to cut back, I was able to start this blog. This is my experience, my lessons on how to save at the grocery store. I am also passionate about healthy eating, so you won’t see ways to cut on quality here. Rather ways to buy quality items at the best prices.
I truly hope this blog helps you save money for your family!
I have honestly never been happier. My family is happy and healthy and we all enjoy saving money together!
God Bless,
